4th of July Food and Beer Parings

We here at the Newburyport Brewing Company love the 4th of July. The sunny weather and smell of burgers charring on the grill really gets us feeling “hoppy”. But no Fourth festivity would be complete without an ice cold can of refreshing craft beer, now would it? Here are a few of our favorite cookout food and beer pairings that are sure to knock your sandals right off!

America’s Flagship

No cookout is complete without an all American burger, which is why we recommend you pair it with our own flagship, the Newburyport Pale Ale. This smooth and balanced American Pale Ale offers a refreshing citrus-y blend with a lightly toasted sweet malt finish guaranteed to complement your bold and juicy American burger.

Put a spin on it: If you are looking for something that will really stand out in a crowd, try a short rib burger with a hop flower cheddar sauce. The short rib burger is a blend of short rib, brisket, chuck and shoulder of American Black Angus Beef. This blend of savory meats and hoppy cheese sauce is sure to impress, and it tastes even better when paired with a Newburyport Pale Ale.

From the Sea

Named after one of Newburyport’s idyllic fishing destinations, it is no surprise that our Plum Island Belgian White is the perfect complement to any seafood dish. We suggest it be paired with shellfish such as mussels, clams or crab, as well as a lighter fish such as grilled haddock. This unfiltered Belgian Style witbier offers a hint of citrus and coriander along with sweet pilsner and wheat malts, which make it the ideal first mate for any seafood plate.

Keep it Sharp

No get together is complete without cheese and crackers, which is why we suggest you pair our Green Head IPA with a sharp cheese such as farmhouse cheddar and/or imported provolone. The sharpness of the cheese melds with the assertive hoppiness of this west coast-style India Pale Ale leaving you with smooth, creamy malt undertones. Why not fight fire with fire and bite “the beer that bites you back”, back!
